The Arc Southern Maryland

Transition Services & DORS

DORS Services

The program is designed for individuals who may have difficulty obtaining or maintaining employment. This program works to assist in developing realistic vocational goals, while teaching basic work skills needed to enter any occupation or skills training program. Emphasis is placed on building physical stamina, emotional tolerance, and overall work behavior associated with entering/re-entering competitive employment or a supportive work environment. These services help to develop the functional capacities of the individual as needed in order to assist them in reaching his/her optimum level of vocational development.

Services for Transitioning Youth

The Arc works collaboratively with DORS and the Public School system in Calvert, St. Mary’s, and Charles County. This partnership provides services for Transitioning Youth resulting in a seamless transition from school to work or post-secondary education. This partnership has shown that students with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), who participate in a paid work experience, are more likely to achieve successful employment. Work based experiences may include career exploration, job shadowing, internships, paid employment, and summer youth employment.

Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS)

Our Pre-Employment Transition Services provide support for students, ages 14-21, to supply them with the tools and confidence needed to transition from high school to employment or post-secondary education. Students learn social skills and interview etiquette, while also exploring career options for a successful future.
