Personal Supports
Personal Supports (PS) operational principle is that people with developmental disabilities have the right to experience control in and over their lives, to participate in making decisions that affect their lives in meaningful ways to the greatest degree possible and to experience the dignity that comes with living self-determined lives. PS supports the rights of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) to live in homes of their choosing, be it their own home, care provider’s home, or their family’s home. Services are intended to promote choice, flexibility, self-determination, inclusion, and personal satisfaction.
Supports are developed with the individual in accordance with the Individual Plan (IP) and can be as unique as each person served. Services can include:
- assistance with shopping
- assistance with meal preparation
- medical, psychological, or nursing supports
- respite care
- recreational supports
Similar supports are also provided through our Autism Waiver Program, funded by the Maryland State Department of Education.
