In Memory of Mary Riston & Webster Reid

It is with great sadness that I share the news of thepassing of two members of The Arc’s family, Webster L. Reid and Mary I. Riston.

Webster passed on January 17, 2017 at the age of 87.  He was a member of The Arc’s family fornearly 23 years, becoming incredibly close with some of the employees that haveworked with him from the very beginning, including manager Cathy Dickerson.  Among Webster’s biggest joys was his love ofsinging and dancing, especially to music from his favorite artists, Fats Dominoand Sam Cooke.  Webster loved Christmasand began talking about it as early as June each year.  His gift requests were always the same – awatch, a wallet, a Walkman, and batteries. Just before Christmas this year, he had the opportunity to visit andtake photos with Santa, which he enjoyed so much that it was a prime topic ofconversation for many days to follow.

Mary passed on January 16, 2017, at the age of 69.  She, too, was a long time member of The Arc’sfamily, receiving services for nearly 38 years. Mary enjoyed crafts, playing bingo, and listening to music.  She especially loved Minnie Mouse and wouldgravitate towards anything “Minnie.” Recently, one of The Arc’s nurses brought her a Minnie Mouse and shewouldn’t let it leave her side.  Thosethat knew Mary well say that she could sometimes come across as shy, but whenshe really became comfortable, she was “a hoot” and could really make youlaugh.

Both Webster and Mary were members of The Arc’s family for so many years and have made an impact on the many people that have had the pleasure of working with them throughout the years.  They will be greatly missed by us all.
