Gene, center, entertains the crowdplaying on his guitar.
The Arc of Southern Maryland is saddened to announce that FranklinEugene “Gene” Thompson, passed away July 30, 2016 at the age of 54. Gene began receiving services from The Arc in 1999, and was a much beloved member of TheArc family.
Gene, resided in the Balfour home in Charles County, with his long time roommates, David and Richard. The three of them were the best offriends. They enjoyed playing pool and watching game shows together. Every Friday, they went out to dinner, in addition to their various other social outings such as bowling and sporting events.
Gene loved people. Every time someone came to the house he would talk to them, share stories and make sure they didn’t leave without a hug. Gene was a natural leader and always wanted to be prepared. He made sure that he did not leave the house without a hat or an umbrella. He enjoyed Country music and playing the guitar. He also was a huge Cowboys fan and liked the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs Baseball team.
Gene leaves behind his brothers, sisters in law, nieces and nephews, and his friends. Gene touched many lives during his time here with The Arc. Many thanks to Margaret Savoy, Phil Cephus, Nikki Alexander, Noel Austria, Cheryl Mitchel, Kerstyn Meehan, Linda Campbell, Linda Terry, and Drammeh Fammara his Balfour staff and care providers. Gene will be truly missed.
